About Me

I am an explorer of the both my inner and outer worlds, in pursuit of a more peaceful life. The desire to understand my behaviors and their underlying origins has sent me on a journey towards awareness, discovery and self-acceptance. I use writing, yoga and walking a labyrinth as a few of the ways to delve into my thoughts and feelings. Kayaking, hiking and biking are a few of the ways I explore the world around me. I have found that stepping outside my comfort zone, even for an act as small as tasting a new food, can be an adventure in learning something new about myself.

Searching

Through my daily interactions with friends and family, as well as through my work as a master’s level educator and a certified yoga instructor, I have come to realize that I am not alone on this search for inner peace. The fears, frustration, and anger that disturb my days and nights appear to be common to many.

Roles and Experiences

Throughout my life, I have taken on many roles, including daughter, sister, wife, mother, student, teacher, employee, and employer. In each role, my personal identity and the perceived expectations of others directed my actions and sense of self-worth. Close examination of who I became in each role provided valuable lessons in self-discovery.

Writing as a Tool for Healing

Writing has become my primary “occupation” and my most powerful tool for healing. I am grateful to have had my work published twice in the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series.

Currently, I am working on a memoir that chronicles my journey through frustration and anger. People pleasing, blaming, codependency, and being controlled by and controlling others are just a few of the hidden players that have stepped forward as my words hit the paper. Facing them head on has been tough, but also loosened their choke hold on inner peace.

Connecting

Through this website and blog, I aim to connect with followers who are interested in the themes and experiences I explore in both my memoir and related essays. I believe that sharing our stories and insights can help each of us find our unique path toward recognizing and embracing our strengths. Adventures in self-discovery are within reach for everyone, regardless of background or circumstances. Small acts of self-reflection, seeking opportunities for personal growth, or simply being willing to step outside our comfort zones to experience new things can further our awareness and understanding of who we are and what holds us back from feeling peaceful.

Join the Journey

I invite you to join me on this ongoing journey. By subscribing to my blog, we can support one another as we navigate the complexities of our emotions and experiences. You will also be kept updated on the progress of my memoir and hopefully be inspired to explore your values, beliefs, and personal identity. The ultimate goal is cultivating a more peaceful existence for ourselves and those around us. I am guided by the words of the Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh: “Peace within, peace in the world.”
